I am 47 years old and squarely in the MIDLIFE.
I recently was asked by a charity whose board I recently joined, to send a bio and a headshot for their website. I cobbled the bio together hurriedly so I could tick the item off my to-do list. The bio read as follows:
“Khulekani is an Aeronautical Engineer with close to 20 years of experience in Investment markets. He studied and obtained a Masters in Aeronautical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. He joined CSIR’s Aerotek Division as a researcher and subsequently joined a telecommunications company, Comverse Network Systems in Israel for 3 years. He then worked at Investec Asset Management in Cape Town. After Investec, he co-founded Afena Capital which he sold out of in 2016. He is currently running KD Capital and Lwembu Group both of which are financial services companies. He has been a Chairman of Home of Hope, an orphanage in Cape Town looking after fetal alcohol syndrome orphans. He has been a Board Member at ASISA, a financial services thinktank and lobby group. He also has recently been appointed as a Board member for an Education oriented Charity Breadline Africa, as well as an Advisory Board Member to, the University of Stellenbosch’s Business School”.
The words above condense over 40 years of seconds, each lived in fear, desperation, joy, love, and most importantly – a sense of being an impostor {more on this in future posts). In this intimate sharing of myself, I hope to be seen by you, heard by you, and hopefully, for us to learn more together.
Thanks for being here.
